Trade unions Feneal-Uil, Filca-Cisl and Fillea-Cgil have presented a new platform for the renewal of the national collective agreement for the stonework industry. In a recent meeting, delegates from all over Italy gathered to define the contents of the next contractual agreement.
At the heart of the demands, there is a proposal for a salary increase of 330.00 euros at level 136. The national secretaries emphasized that this request not only aims at compensating for the loss of purchasing power due to inflation of the past three years but also to acknowledge the workers’ contribution to the sector’s growth.
The objective is to introduce a new calculation system to recover the inflation. In addition to the wage aspect, the trade unions emphasized the need to strengthen health and safety measures at workplaces; this would result in greater prevention and stricter controls.
Another new proposal is to reduce working hours, a measure designed to address the risks and wear typical of the sector. The platform also tackles challenges posed by technological change, which is transforming the building materials industry through the digitalization of production processes and the introduction of artificial intelligence.
The current contract, which involves about 30,000 workers, will expire on the next March 31st. Now, workers will have the opportunity to express their views on the platform during assemblies in the workplaces. Only after approval, negotiations with the counterpart can begin.
