On February 26, 2026, the Italian Association of the Oil Industry (Assitol) and the Fai-Cisl and Flai-Cgil unions signed an agreement governing the terms of working hour reductions in the Margarine and Oil industry. This agreement was made following the directives of Article 33 of “Specific Provisions for Workers in the Oil and Margarine Industry” from the National Collective Bargaining Agreement of the Food Industry.
The parties agreed that from January 1, 2027, employees are entitled to enjoy four rest days annually. This is in substitution of the previous six non-working days, in addition to four hours as time off work. Companies themselves can identify the management mechanisms for these rest periods. Specific provisions were also made for shift workers.
For the sales operators, the use of reduced hours will occur in groups of eight hours for a full day or groups of four hours for a half day.
