In December 2024, the Italian National Institute for Social Security (INPS) completed actions related to the emoluments received by recipients of pension and welfare benefits, based on the 2021 income statements provided by the Revenue Agency (INPS, announcement January 7, 2025). The INPS announced that it had concluded verification activities in December 2024 of once-off allowances provisionally disbursed in 2022, for welfare and pension beneficiaries, based on their 2021 income declarations provided by the Revenue Agency.
The verification process, conducted in accordance with legislative decrees no. 50/2022 and no. 144/2022, examined the 200 and 150 euro allowances that were temporarily granted to those whose net income for 2021, minus social security and welfare contributions, did not exceed 35,000 and 20,000 euros respectively.
For situations where the income realized was above the pre-set limits, the INPS has already sent a debt notification through the digital notification platform SEND, used for communications related to public administration processes.
The INPS explains that generally, as communicated to the affected parties, recovery will be made through pension withholding at a rate of 50 euros per month starting from June 2025. If pension withholding is not possible, a PagoPA payment notice will be sent.
