On February 3, 2025, the second round of discussions between Unionmeccanica and trade union representatives (Fim, Fiom and Uilm) took place to renew the collective bargaining agreement that expired on December 31, 2024, affecting 400,000 sector employees. In Unionmeccanica’s assessment, the current general situation is very critical, noting an economic slowdown in the Automotive, Steel, and Home Appliances sectors and the limited impact of the Recovery and Resilience National Plan (PNNR), which complicates the renewal of the agreement in question.
Addressing the requests advanced by trade unions and presented on their platforms, Unionmeccanica provided answers to almost every point, however they remained silent on economic issues. They have not accepted requests for a redefinition of professional classification, considering it of little utility for companies – equating it with the demand to make continuous training practicable for all workers and introducing training breaks on prevention and safety.
Regarding labour market regulation, Unionmeccanica responded saying that no negotiation intervention is necessary as there is correct application of the rules in the companies. Future meetings have been set for March 3rd and 17th, 2025. Informational assemblies will also start in every workplace in the coming days.
