The employer associations Assaeroporti, Aeroporti 2030, Assaereo, Assocontrol, Assohandlers, Fairo, Federcatering, and the Trade Unions Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uil-Trasporti and Ugl-Trasporto Aereo have recently signed the main part of the new national collective labor contract for the air transport industry, effective from January 1, 2025. This agreement seeks to confirm the central and inclusive value of the National Collective Labor Contract (CCNL), seen as a regulatory tool designed to create a system of shared and clear rules between companies and workers in the industry.
From a regulatory perspective, the agreement includes harmonization rules to implement the legislative changes on social protection and work already in force since 2019. The agreement also enhances the role of the National Observatory of Air Transport, tasked with tracking socioeconomic trends in the sector and addressing subjects of mutual interest. Importantly, it aims to reconcile economic growth with the need to protect the environment and workers’ rights.
In terms of specific topics, the Social Partners have agreed on important new aspects such as remote work, ‘solidarity vacations’, facilitation for university and specialist pathways, protection of disability, staff training focused on workplace safety, the development of anti-discrimination policies and gender equality, and measures to combat the deplorable phenomenon of aggression towards airport workers in the course of their duties.
Regarding welfare, steps have been initiated to establish a sector health fund. This agreement signals significant progress in the continued effort to balance the interests of companies and labor while ensuring regulatory compliance and promoting social responsibility.
