On 6th July 2025, the trade unions Filt-Cgil, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Ferrovieri, Fast-Confsal, and Orsa Ferrovie announced a positive result in a consultative referendum concerning the renewal of the national railway sector contract, signed on 22nd May 2025. It was reported that 68% of the workers approved this contract renewal.
A majority of railroad workers and employees of railway contractors acknowledged the concrete improvements in their working conditions brought about by the new contract. It introduces significant changes to both economic and regulatory aspects, which could improve the livelihoods and work experiences of railway workers.
The trade unions have informed Agens and the FS Group about the decision, initiating as of July, the granting of the first instalment of an increased minimum wage scale, effective from 1st June 2025. Furthermore, they will also be addressing and settling the backlog of payments for the previous month. Therefore, it is clear that the renewal of this contract is seen as a positive step forward for the conditions and rights of railway workers.
