The Italian National Institute of Social Security (INPS) has issued an announcement requiring workers on sick leave to attach a medical certificate to their treatment requests upon termination of employment (INPS Message 27 December 2024, No. 4468). This requirement aims to expedite the processing of the New Social Insurance Provision for Employment (NASpI) requests made by employees on sick leave at the termination of their employment.
The medical certification must corroborate that the individual has regained their capacity to work. For cases under the protection of the National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL), the definitive certification issued by them is needed. The medical certifications must not contain any diagnosis and the burden to attach them is upon the applicant at the moment of submitting their request or subsequently via the “NASpI-Com” model.
Lastly, the stipulations provided in the message will take effect from 1st March 2025.
