Businesses and workers in the metalworking sector are worried about an ongoing stalemate following a 32-hour strike. According to Fim-Cisl, there are many unresolved issues related to the renewal of the metal mechanical contract. It seems that negotiations never really started after the presentation of a platform, extending a break that has been ongoing for more than six months and prompting large and medium-sized companies to send a reminder letter to Federmeccanica.
The mentioned platform envisages a pay increase of €280.00 per month, taking into account both inflation and other aspects related to organizational innovation and planned transformation processes, as part of the ‘Pact for the Factory’. According to Federmeccanica, wage increases should be granted upon confirmation of inflation. Therefore, wage increases are not finalised, and their scheduling is based on inflation trends.
Given this situation, on the 20th of May, over 1500 delegates were collectively called to Bologna to reaffirm their position and to promote initiatives for June, should the negotiation not resume.
